Taekwon-do is Korean art of self defence and was introduced to the UK in 1966.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the site and hopefully from here to one of our classes. Click on the Classes link to find times and venues close to you. Beginners are welcome to join at any time.

We hope this new site will attract many visitors, both current members and those interested in taking up Taekwon-do.

We want this to be a dynamic site including things that you want to hear about... so we have the latest news, a calendar of events, details of class times and venues, equipment as well as all your Korean terms and patterns. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to see.

So what is Taekwon-do?
Taekwon-do is Korean art of self defence and was introduced to the UK in 1966. Our association, GTUK, is part of the the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF), and is affiliated to the British Taekwon-do Council (BTC).

Taekwon-do is similar in many ways to Karate, using hand and foot techniques. However, being quite a modern martial art, only starting in 1955, it has been developed using scientific principles of physiology and anatomy to maximise strength and power. You will progressively build up your level of fitness and improve your flexibility and balance. Kids, in particular, benefit from improved coordination and concentration. Everyone will gain in confidence and self belief.

Taekwon-do has grown in popularity recently thanks to films like Charlie's Angels and Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as Martial arts movies, such as those by Jackie Chan and Jean Claude Van Damme.
